Listening to the heartbreaking saying of one of thousands of Vo Bi's daughters-in-law after 1975
I still remember February, 1973. I met him when he went on duty in the "Paris political opperation" in Central Vietnam. That year I was just a 16-year-old girl, I didn't know anything about Vo Bi Da Lat. I only knew that he was a very gentle and kind young Vo Bi soldier. And I was a very idealistic person about the ARVN soldier.
By April, 1975, Bad things happened to my family. My father went to prison for 8 years. The hardships that my mother and 11 siblings had to go through when the family's head was no longer there.
I was still determined to wait for his decision; the young man I loved. Then, I went to visit him in Phuoc Long prison to learn and decide for my life.
When he said: "My life is over, it is DONE. You should go back and find someone with good conditions to protect your living"
That sentence made me even more determined. He was released from prison at the end of 1979. Despite my family's objections, I went to see him, married him and lived with him. I still didn't know anything about Vo Bi. Later, when the political situation in Vietnam was less obligation. My husband and his soldier friends' meetings were more frequent.
And from the meetings, I understood, loved and cherished my husband's past more and more. And from there, my poems about Vo Bi appeared.
Today is December 27. The day he graduated with the class name Truong Huu Duc, (General of the Armored Corps). I would like to present the work of a Senior of my husband, with all my respect for the once glorious school.
From:
Nguyen Van Thanh Class 28/Vietnam National Military Academy;
To:
Mr. Tran Chau Giang, Class 22/Vietnam National Military Academy;
When you joined to the 3rd Armored Regiment; located in Pleiku; in 1968, my family and I fled the Tet Mau Than 1968 battle at the ditch; opposite the 3rd Armored Regiment (the ditch is on the left of this picture).
At that time, I was still a high school student. My family lived closely with many soldiers families of the 3rd Armored Regiment, opposite the Regiment's Camp. And my wish and aspiration was to join the Vietnam National Military Academy when I grew up. I tried my best to do well at school and practice martial arts tirelessly for this ideal.
Our family lived where was on the left in this picture. It was about 100 meters from the intersection. On the right was the 3rd Armored Regiment's military base. On the left was where we lived. And thank you to the 3rd Armored Regiment for lending my family a GMC to take my father to his final resting place in the summer of 1969.
Thank you for your help.
Your younger fellow soldier;
Nguyen Van Thanh Class 28 - October 25, 2023
